A great risk is posed for people who are treated at a very young age and that too with very high doses of radiotherapy. However, only one person in thousands treated with radiotherapy can get bone cancer.

If a person is having a condition named Li-Fraumeni Syndrome, the risk for developing several cancers is greatly increased. This also includes bone cancer. Li-Fraumeni syndrome runs in families. The main cause includes the inherited gene defect. There is an eye cancer which is also known as hereditary retinoblastoma. The children are usually affected by it. The main cause is the faulty genes. If children are born with this gene defect, the risk of getting Osteosarcoma is greatly increased. Thus, one should be careful with the causes of bone marrow cancer.
