About Everest Region:

The region surrounding the Everest is as remote as the Everest itself, especially the 'Solu-Khumbu' region. This place has a unique charm to it, as it has surpassed the test of time and endured throughout all these years. You will be surprised to find a land which can only be described as being mythical. There is no accessibility by cars, cycles or bikes. The only way to reach is by undertaking a ninety hour strenuous trek of six days or catching a forty-five minutes tumultuous flight on a fourteen seater Dornier aircraft from Kathmandu. And, you reach a land, where time has literally stood-still.

Many of the people of this region have not seen a single means of transportation in their entire lifespan, and yet can guide you with their trekking and mountaineering skills. The 'Sherpa' community is as simple as fearless as they are. Very friendly and warm, you will instantly realize why they are regarded world over, first as great friends and then as guides.

The best means of transportation here are the 'Yaks' and the 'Sherpas' themselves. Sherpa porters can carry weights over 100 kgs. on their backs, and you would stare at them dumb-founded when you see them climb mountains with those weights on their backs effortlessly. That is a 'Sherpa' for you, built like steel and warm like the morning sun.

Solu-Khumbu happens to be one of the most underdeveloped regions of the world, but has a happiness quotient many times higher than most metros of India. The Himalayan air has a big role in it. Trudging along from here, you reach 'The Everest Base Camp', a place which has welcomed legends, dreamers and nomads alike.

This one place calls for complete submission as you reach the base camp of the highest mountain in the world. If you tried to search the soul of the Earth, you are likely to find it here along with your own. At an elevation of 5,364 mtrs. the 'Everest Base Camp' rests reassuringly in the shadow of the towering 'Mt. Everest'. In awe of the magnitude of the Mt. Everest, you feel relieved from all belongings and succumb to the moment. Struck with humility and compassion, you will be surprised at the effect it has on your consciousness. Tears well-up and you know that it is out of pure bliss. The feeling is indescribable and one has to experience it to understand its magnificence. That one moment defines your existence, gives meaning to your life, and inspires you till the end.

However, a much concerned part is the fact that very few Indians have tried to trek on this route. The same Solu-Khumbu region where hundreds of thousands of foreigners from US, Europe, Africa, New Zealand and the likes sacrifice all to have a glimpses of the mighty Mt. Everest. People who are obese, old, children; blind, physically challenged have treaded the mountains of mystery except for few Indians. Don't you think a country of a billion population should have a heavy dose of interest in trekking the greatest adventure of all time?
