Tourist Guide to Tarragona- Spain

Tarragona is among the most beautiful towns in Spain, situated at the top of a hill along the Mediterranean Sea. This town has many beautiful, natural places besides some interesting and historical monuments. The beaches are sandy and the marina of the town is worth visiting. Tarragona is well- developed, with all kind of leisure and basic facilities for the tourists. The town has the distinction of being the capital town of Costa Dorada. There are many wonderful and historical places in this town belonging to Roman civilization, and most of these historical places are well preserved and this is the reason that Tarragona is included in the list of World Heritage Sites by UNESCO.

The original name of Tarragona was Tarraco and the Romans used it as an important place for metropolises during the old days, when Spain was known as Hispania. Most of the places belonging to that era are still preserved in this beautiful historical town.There is an Old Town in Tarragona, which has the wall from Roman era with an original length of four kilometers enclosing it. With time, this wall has been modified and currently only one kilometer of the original wall is preserved. Along with the wall, there are 3 towers and one town gate as well. There is a famous Roman Forum, which contains two big squares and these are covered with arcades and columns. You will find a cathedral at the higher square which is constructed in the original Gothic design. Previously, a Temple of Romans was situated at this place.

You can get to the other square, which is located downstairs and it was the biggest square during the Roman time. There is a Circus located along the side of Forum and this circus was built during the 1st century of Roman era. This circus can accommodate almost twenty five thousand visitors and the last time, it was in use during the 5th century. You can also visit an Amphitheatre in Tarraco, villa spanien, which has a location outside the walls of the Old Town near the sea. This Amphitheatre still maintains majority of its structure. In the complex, you will also find a Roman Church and Basilica built in Gothic style. Once you finish your exploration of the town, you can relax yourself at the beaches, while enjoying some of the most beautiful views of the town and port.
