Video Games Have to Be Evaluated Before Released to the Public
Video games have to be tested by someone before they are released to the general public for sale. This might seem like common knowledge but a lot of people do not realize that they can get paid for testing devices that they are currently playing for fun. Every design studio needs to have their new devices tested by an objective third party in order to assure a successful new product launch.
To guarantee success developers seek out the help of professional and amateur device testers before a market launch. Testers provide vital information the developers need to improving the computerized entertainment devices and to fixing any major glitches. Having devices tested is also an effective cost savings method which is crucial to any new product launch because trying to fix a problem before product launch is a lot less expensive than trying to remedy the problem after the product has been distributed.
If a developer releases a device with a flaw, the developer will have a difficult time regaining his customer's trust. This is why testing is such a vital part of new product development. The professional tester is usually someone who works in the computer industry and tests devices in a controlled setting. There is a lot of competition to become a tester but there are also a lot of opportunities available to become a tester.
The demand for this work has steadily risen over the last few years and a job as a tester can be difficult to acquire. There are two types of testers, those who are paid for their time and those who volunteer their time and are not paid. The beta tester is not paid, and as one might imagine, it is easier to find work as a beta tester than as a paid tester. However, the volunteer tester has a better chance of finding a paid assignment after a few stints as a beta tester due to his experience and commitment.
The beta tester usually tests the product after paid testers complete their testing. The beta tester is usually part of the last quality control process before the product is released for sale. A problem that is caught before general release can save a studio a lot of money and embarrassment.
Most paid testers have a post secondary degree and are employed in the industry in some type of product development capacity. But, there is a growing demand for testers who are not working in the industry because most devices are sold to people who are not technological developers. Home based product testers are usually compensated hourly and report on such areas as graphics, menus, and functionality.
If one is thinking of working as a tester he should approach a studio the same way he would approach a potential employer. He should submit a resume that lists his past testing experience and any other relative information. He should have a knowledge of the particular studio he is applying for work as a tester.
Video games are part of our culture and demand increases every year for new devices. Companies need their new products tested before their new devices are sold to the public. Testers perform a vital service in the development of a new entertainment device and can help in a new products launch and save a developer a lot of time and money.
