Each time people refer to the word cartomancy, they instantly think of some evil practice that only a select few people can understand. They think it is a dark art. However, the truth is that cartomancy is simply the use of cards to foretell the future of a person, group, or a nation. For hundreds of years people have been using this method to gain an understanding of their future. Whether it is done for mere entertainment or for serious concerns, cartomancy is indeed one of the most popular ways to gain insights about future events.

Aside from the usual cards that are being played, there are also what we call tarot cards. These tarot cards can also be played for mere entertainment, but the pictures and images shown on its cards are somewhat different. It is hard to interpret the meanings of the images on the cards without being confused.

Cartomancy and tarot reading are somewhat similar. Both use cards. Both are used for the purpose of entertainment, or for serious predictions of real life events. The difference between them is that with tarot reading, readings and predictions can be more detailed and specific. In cartomancy, usual card decks can only give somewhat general interpretations. In tarot reading, there are a variety of card decks to choose from, and it is a good source of detailed and more specific predictions.

Many people are skeptical about the accuracy of card predictions. However, there is also a huge percentage of society that believes in psychic, astrology, and tarot card related issues. At the end of the day, it boils down to what a person believes. If a particular belief or opinion works out in someone's life and leads him or her to greater happiness, that person has all the right in the world to uphold it.
