Tissue Microarray – a New Method of Research in Future
Laboratory tests and researches in medical science help in determination of proper diagnosis and treatment of a disease. Generally while conducting these researches, paraffin blocks are used to study the infected histological tissues. But tissue microarray makes these researches convenient and easy by having all the samples on a single slide. They consist of paraffin blocks in which several tissue samples can be collected and archived allowing histological analysis. Basically, a block of paraffin with arrays is constructed and then with the help of a needle, the histological sample of infected tissue is then transferred into it. Tissue microarray is suitable for screening one genetic marker across several samples.
Among the several tests that are carried out on tissue microarray the immunohistochemistry and fluorescent in situ hybridization, are most commonly known? They prove particularly helpful in research analysis of cancer infected tissues. It has been observed that production of tissue microarray samples have caused them to lose its antigenic properties particularly if they have been stored for a short period of time prior immune-staining. The reason for such losses has been assumed to be caused primarily due to oxidation. In order that such loss does not happen, it is recommended that sectioning should be done without using water. Moreover, incubating the tissue samples in a solution of xylem and coating it with paraffin can reduce such losses.
Among the several advantages of tissue microarray, the worth notifying is that it gives opportunity for wider analysis which makes it the suitable choice for research. Secondly, the tissue microarray yields better result as a needle biopsy is used to produces fine quality and several sliced samples. Tissue microarray slide supports all stains and hence it proves to be useful for imaging analysis. Last, but not the least this method is cost effective in comparison to others.
