Safeguarding Environment with Hazardous Materials Management and Training
In present times use of hazardous materials has increased to a great extent. Though invention of some products has helped mankind in various ways but these chemicals are posing a deadly threat to the environment. Therefore, there is a need for proper Hazardous Materials Management program all over the world in order to protect the environment. The hazardous materials management program is inclusive of many things. It includes classification of hazardous materials into various categories such as radioactive, explosives, gasses, oxidizers, corrosive, poison, liquid flammables and combustibles, solid flammables and combustibles and many others.
Hazardous Materials Management programs also include providing identification codes such as color codes and number codes. In color codes red color indicates flame hazards, blue color indicates health hazards and white color indicates special types of hazards. In number codes 0 indicates least degree of hazard whereas 4 indicate highest degree of hazard. They also conduct awareness programs to enable the people to know about these dangerous goods and various safety measures. It also provides guidelines for transportation from one place to another. These days movement of dangerous goods has become very common due to increase in its use. Thus, hazardous materials management helps in minimizing the risk of dangerous goods to a great extent.
Hazardous Materials Training also helps in reducing the risk from hazardous materials by providing information regarding handling of such goods and safety measures which everyone should keep in mind. Training in handling of hazardous materials is very important for those who work in companies who deal in such goods because their main area of work may include production, storage and shipping of dangerous goods. Therefore from safety point of view proper training of the officials working in such companies is essential. In training of hazardous materials the officials are also given knowledge about packaging, labeling and marketing of hazardous materials.
There are mainly three types of Hazardous Materials Training. They are IATA, IMDG and 49 CFR. IATA is International Air Transport Association which trains people for international air shipments as well as provides guidelines for transporting hazardous materials by air. IMDG is International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code which trains people for international ocean shipments. Finally, 49 CFR trains people for shipping dangerous goods by domestic rail, truck, barge, ocean and air. These training programs are doing their bit in safeguarding the environment by making people trained enough to handle harmful goods.
Thus, in this way Hazardous Materials Management and Hazardous Materials Training are protecting the environment.
