Education Brings About Social Change
What is a social change? What impact does it have on society? How does it help everyone in developing a good relationship? Social change refers to the changes in the people, in their relationship with each other and with the things in their society. Americans have exposed the fact that uncontrolled social change can bring about serious trouble. The big questions of the century are that our effort to control communism is adequate. Are we taking any concrete steps about which will be helpful in the long run and what is the responsibility of educators in all that society? Social change is different from cultural or civilization change, it actually comes in at a specific time. Cultural and civilization changes are the result of social change.
Social change can be observed in both a society and community, in society it refers to the total interaction of any group. Social change is a process, not a product and it is not observable except in the changing equilibrium of the present relationships. Education does affect the social change and education policy that has been historically developed within the national context. Education is the panacea to every problem like the world issues such as global warming, conflict and the depletion of earth resources .Education contributes to an increased awareness and an enthusiasm in resolving these problems. Education can bring about social change while connecting with theory at the level of cultural impact and policy implications.
Today the role of education is widely recognized as an instrument of social change and social development. Social change may take place when people need a change or when the existing social system or network of social institutions fails to meet the existing demands or when new methods suggest better ways of meeting those needs.
Social change takes place as a response to many aspects of changes that take place in the social and non social environment. Education can start social changes by bringing about a change in outlook and attitude of man. It can bring about a change in the pattern of forming social relationships eventually bring about a few social changes. Previously educational institutions and teachers used to show a truth to the students that education was more a means of social control than an instrument of social change. The traditional education was destined for an unchanging society not followed by any change. Now education aims at conveying knowledge and associated with religion.
Education has become secular today and an independent institution now. Education has been instrumental in the development of science and technology. It has brought drastic changes in every aspect of men’s life. It has been marked that education is a process which brings about changes in the behavior of society, enables every individual to effectively participate in the activities of society and to make positive contribution to the progress of society.
Education and Social Change improve socio-cultural awareness, and highlight education and educators as agents of social change. The Education and Social Change not only prepares students for their study during early childhood but it also introduces them to new possibilities for affecting a change in local and global communities while respecting their cultural traditions and sensibilities.
