Computer Repair: Who is the Expert?
It is important to know who a computer repair-service person really is and what their area of expertise is. This field is now a few decades old and the industry has put in strict regulations and licensing norms to protect against fraud and damage.
In general terms, the computer repair person can resolve computer problems and also provide regular maintenance of the hardware and servers. Additional services could include building and maintaining network configurations, providing tech support, putting in new hardware/software, upgrades etc, with many experienced people having specialized know-how in certain complex areas like data recovery, anti-virus systems, etc.
Technical experts may also build and assemble their own Pcs and servers. Many of them deal with software installation, put in additional memory or cards in systems and also load the operating system and drivers onto the hard disk after building it.
Another area that experts work in is dealing with malicious attacks by hackers, spyware, malware or viruses and providing the right protection against these.
The education that the expert receives is very important since it determines his/her future career. University degrees, technical diplomas and short-term vocational courses which can be taken as and when required are some of the certified programs. However, this is a hands-on field and no amount of book learning can substitute for real-time experience. Many experts could be geeks or nerds who prefer freelance work to working for a corporation. Others could be self-taught experts who enjoy consulting work alongside some other alternate career.
The field of work includes all computer-related equipment, including laptops and home-computers, smart phones, tablets, PCs, peripherals like keyboard, mouse, printers/scanners, display screens, speakers, external and internal hard-drives and arrays, and also the whole range of networking systems. Many experts are also well-versed in software installation, upgrades and data protection.
Computer repair technicians provide either onsite or remote services or both, depending on their preferences and the nature of the problems.
The majority of experts are honest and reliable but as in all fields, there are a variety of fraudsters here too and it could save you a lot of time, money and peace of mind if you are able to identify these in time.
Building a long-term relationship with a reputable and reliable expert computer repair person is very important in today's world since most people use computers in one form or the other. They can provide good support, and give sound advice on purchasing, repair and upgrading your systems. Many of them also recycle old systems and could offer good trade-ins.
Hence identifying a good computer repair technician is like finding a good doctor!
