Tips for Raising a ‘Child Prodigy’

If parenting in itself is a task then raising child prodigy is an added unique challenge. Nurturing these children who have additional amazing abilities requires extra efforts by parents in regulating them. The child may be exceptionally gifted in music, science, literature, art, mathematics or any other field.

What is Child Prodigy?

The term signifies someone who masters any skill at an early age. Such a child with exceptional quality is called as ‘Child Prodigy’. Basically, the child is capable of doing something which is beyond his level of maturity. In order to classify a prodigy it is important to know the child must be younger than 18 years of age.

Identifying Child Prodigy

The talent and exceptional ability of a child prodigy is discovered quite young. Generally, it begins from the age of two. Some examples of child prodigies are – a child who begins reading at the age of 2 or is intellectual enough to solve complex math problem at the age of 5. A unique point is that their growth within their talented domain is exponential as compared to other children

For families with highly gifted children, it is important for them to understand that innate talent and environment often works together in creating a child prodigy and it is the upbringing of a child which plays a crucial role. It also a healthy combination of the child’s personality and heredity factor that leads in formation of a child prodigy. Generally, in most cases pattern is seen that at least one parent is highly scholar in academics or creative background. Parents have unsaid responsibility to nurture their gifted child further.

• The parents must use their own resources and seek out information from others in understanding and handling impact of the exceptional quality of the child on his school and family life.

• Many times it is absorbed that such children are usually isolated from other peer age group and other families. This results in de -motivation and depression in child.

• Patience and effort are essential for parents raising a child prodigy. It is establishes fact now that there is a clear connection between the parents’ involvement and the child’s accomplishments.

• Each child requires his or her own special parenting approach, and that may even change time to time.

• It is vital for parents to get to know other families with highly gifted children with whom they can share their experiences

• Even if a child enthusiastically and joyously immersed in his area of talent still in developing and honing his skills further parenting plays a crucial role.
