Pune City Centre Shopping

Pune is a shopper's paradise, and there are huge numbers of all types of shops – from traditional Indian goods merchants to glossy shopping malls scattered across the city, many within easy reach of Pune City Centre hotels. For a traditional shopping experience, the Mahatma Gandhi Road, known to locals as the MG Road, has hundreds of shops selling clothing, electronic goods, homeware and every other item under the sun. Fashion Street nearby is, as the name suggests, a great place to find low cost clothing, accessories and leather goods. Both places expect you to haggle, so bargain hard.

For markets, the Juna Bazaar near the railway station is open on Wednesdays and Sundays, and is a fabulous flea market selling everything from antique rugs to trinkets and coins. The Laxmi Road market is huge and specialises in clothing and gold jewellery, both of which make excellent gifts to take home.

The best place to get handicrafts and support local women who are trying to raise their families is at the Vishram Baug Wada, where there is a shop selling one-off handicrafts and decorative items made by the women of the Mahila Bachat Gata.

Pune is a great place to buy books and there are hundreds of bookshops across the city. Crossword and Manney Booksellers are two of the biggest and best stocked.

For a more Western, glamorous shopping experience, Celebrate Mall and Pune Central are two of the biggest and have a good range of Western clothing stores, together with a good number of high end Indian labels.
