Lace

Brugge may not be at the centre of fashion and stylish shopping, but it is famous for its lace. Most of the lace that is manufactured in Brugge is machine made, though there are still authentic factories around that are dedicated to creating traditional handmade forms of bloemenwerk, rozenkant and toversesteek.

Shopping Centres

The main shopping centres in Brugge are found in Markt and 't Zand. Here you will find a selection of stores that offer souvenirs and handmade lace. Generally the shops are open Monday to Saturday from 9am to 6pm. Night shopping is common on Fridays, with many stores staying open until 9pm.

Markets and Stalls

The Antiques and Flea Market is open from spring until autumn on Saturdays and Sundays. The main Brugge market is located next to the Dijver canal.

Food and Drink

There are a large number of beers that are on offer throughout Brugge. These include Straffe Hendrik Brugs Tripel and Brugs Blond. Brugge is famous for its bitter, which many people claim to be the highlight of the city. Foods include Oud Brugge cheese and pralines (chocolate), both of which would make great souvenirs and gifts.

By staying at one of the Brugge City Centre hotels, you will be in very close proximity to all of the shopping centres that are available to tourists. In the city centre you will also be within easy reach of the markets. If you are more interested in fashion, then a daily bus and train service runs to Antwerp, allowing you to experience the tranquil atmosphere of the city and also experience a more vibrant shopping area.
