A friend of mine

A friend of mine, who is very particular with bed bugs, happened to visit her son in the college dorm. She's read about things on the internet about bed bugs and college dorm rooms so she turned to the bed and found out that there are a lot of bed bug eggs in the plywood bed supports. She further went on investigating but was confused to find no signs of adults, fecal droppings, castings or nymphs. She called me up and we did a consultation over the phone. I asked her to do a thorough examination at the eggs to see if they have already hatched. Unfortunately, she needed a magnifying glass or a powerful microscope to really answer my question, which she didn't have readily available.

What we could really only do was hypothesize about what really happened. We checked what might have happened and our educated guess was that although the female bed bugs deposit their eggs often in places where many other eggs are deposited, sometimes they also drop their eggs at random. No one seems to know why or when, but the female bed bugs have their way of doing things. If this is the case, then there is a possibility that there are many bed bugs present in the area. Together, with her son's help, they needed to locate them so that the appropriate treatment could be applied.

Another hypothesis is that the bed bug eggs were actually remnants of an earlier eradication effort done before. Either way, though, my friend told me that she will be contacting the building manager and the in charge of the college dorm to be sure that appropriate actions will be taken when regards to bed bug control and eventually eradication. This is what exactly needs to happen if you were to discover that your dorm room or your child's dorm room is showing visible signs of bed bug infestations. It's extremely important that you contact the building management so they can begin to start a treatment plan for the infested dorm.
