A Brief Discussion on ADA Signs
ADA Signs have come into practice after the “Americans with Disabilities Act”. They are signs that are often confused with Braille. That is because they have the same indented and raised styles which are also the features of the ada signs. But ADA is not just about Braille. There are ADA Accessibility Guidelines and they are used mainly in the architectural, construction and signage industries.
These signs are nothing but what we often see in our daily lives in various forms among number of public places. Signs often denote exit or entry, a particular direction, washrooms- especially for male and females, store rooms, fire exit, no smoking etc. Some of the signs are widely recognizable while some are meant for a particular group of people. Custom ada signs are also ordered by certain groups of people. However, it is important, that the signs should be made as easy as possible. No smoking signs include a slash over a cigarette.
A sign should not be so difficult as to substantiate it again with the help of a text over or under it. In other words, it must be easily understandable; otherwise the entire purposes of the ADA signs are lost. While designing the ADA signs, it is also important to keep in mind that the background should be free of excess color of too much shine. That can be a problem to see from the distance as well as by those who have a poor eye sight. Traffic lights are permissible. To make it more vivid, contrast can be used with the help of light background, dark sign or vice versa, the easiest being white and black.
So it can be easily said that the ADA signs keeps much importance in our lives, its another fact that most of the time we won’t notice them.
