Chevrolet – an American Brand Made in Canada

While the Chevrolet brand is undoubtedly American, several models are made right here in Ontario. If you're one to support local businesses, you can't go wrong with several models of Chevrolet cars. Ontario is home to the Oshawa Car Assembly, a huge manufacturing facility that assembles GM and Chevrolet cars. So which models are made down the road in Oshawa? Here's a look:

The Chevrolet Impala – Oshawa Car Assembly has been manufacturing the Impala since 1999. The 2000 Chevrolet Impala was the first of the 8th generation which was built on the Lumina's W-body platform. In addition to manufacturing standard Impalas, the Oshawa Car Assembly also manufactured versions specifically for law enforcement agencies. Police packages came equipped with stiffer suspension, a more powerful engine, and a surveillance mode switch that turned off all of the car's lights so the police car could 'hide'. Currently, the plant is manufacturing the 9th generation Impala and will soon begin production of the 10th generation for the 2014 model year. The 2014 Chevrolet Impala is expected to be larger and more upscale than its predecessors.

The Chevrolet Camaro – The Camaro was originally introduced as a 'pony' car to compete with the Ford Mustang in 1966. Now in its 5th generation, these stunning Chevrolet cars are produced right here in Ontario. The 2012 Camaro celebrates the car's 45th anniversary.

The Chevrolet Equinox – The Chevrolet Equinox is a mid-sized crossover SUV that is primarily built in Ingersoll, Ontario at CAMI Automotive. While CAMI Automotive builds the Equinox, it has partnered with Oshawa Car Assembly in order to meet demand for this popular car. The models built in Oshawa feature metal bodies that are made in Ingersoll and transported by truck to Oshawa. From there, the bodies are painted and the remainder of the new Chevrolet vehicles are assembled.
